Oh here we go again, with the beaded lunch-bucket mantra.

Per a comment on another blog, a young-ish widow was advised to continue keeping at home.  Btw, good thing her late husband thought enough of her, and their children, to have provided some life insurance - call it, shoe-leather on the lovey-dovey hallmark-phrases.  Anyway, life insurance only goes so far, and so the widowed housewife has to find a way to earn income.

And guess what - like this 'el be a major shock - her church hopes they don't have to help her much...happens when the tithes are needed for that fancy building (wonder if they have an atm, one that takes credit cards ;/ ).  So, they're basically saying, gedda j.o.b. honey.

At the blog, she was advised to start a business from her home.

But in the real world, a home-based business, that actually turns atleast some profit, is way easier said than done.  First off - and besides for upfront tax purposes - you need an entire room just for that business.  Finding, and maintaining, a customer-base is an ongoing hurtle - are people willing to pay ... oh my stars, she wants ten whole dollars???

Yeah!

Lady i worked with, who tried that route, had told me, that if your materials cost a dollar, then - in order to keep the business worth the time and hassle - you need to charge atleast four dollars.

Well guess what!  You can find beaded lunch pails, over at wallyworld for just over half the price - or wait until late fall when they go on sale.

Another reality concerning crafted items is, alot of people are more or less transients - don't really know, from one month to the next, if they'll be living at the same address/sleeping with the same person.  So no point in acquiring craft items - they take up room, and aren't move-friendly.

Busstop ahead.

  1. Fundamentalist foolery, telling a widowed woman to live off esty crafts. Selling art is hard too. Even if she finds another product she needs capital to get suppliers, inventory and shipping ability. The richy riches don't care. Some of those church biddies probably can't wait to see someone homeless. I'll be frank, a lot of people deconvert watching the nonsense. I had my gutsful of the David Ramsey, Republican crap that assumed a level of wealth I never saw.

  2. Dear Peeps, no surprise, alot of people walk away.

And yeah, there's a definite clubbishness among families - sometimes it sorta feels like high-school. i don't fit in, and probably never will, but...oh well ;)

Being a believer in the Word, i don't have to worry about "fitting in" with clay potties, anyway.

But yeah, the invalidation hurts lots of people - especially nice people. And that inhales.
