Also, ya being a single mom, have a young child in school. So, ya get him or her off to school, and get yourself off to that crappy, abysmally-paying job, only to get the call: school closed, because ... well, some kid sneezed. Ya know, happens again ... it's the ole waiting-for-the-other-shoe-to-drop scenario. Just another reason, to say "nuts, why bother."
But here's the thought that popped into my little brain. It's not just old people who are scared of covid. The fear-mongering has been most effective. Young people don't have the life experience that we old people have had. They don't remember that late 1990s flu - that was a nasty one ... hurt to breathe. There was also the early 80s one (was out from work, the WHOLE week).
Also, when we were in school, there still remained some love for the truth - in other words, we weren't fed as much misinformation as kids are today. We even learned about George Washington and Christopher Columbus - they were presented to us as (imperfect) men; nowadays, they're either ignored, or written off as devils (by people who don't even believe in spiritual reality).
