Read an interesting comment on another blog, the topic was about college and working up to a much coveted degree.

He used the phrase "publish or perish," and said that the (pressing) need to do so is much more pronounced today, than it was even a few decades ago.  Guess - with the internet saving that post-grad student from having to run to the library, and back again - such is to be expected.   But still, even in pre-google days...not good for the reader, or the writer, for that matter.

As if fast-fashion isn't abominable enough, we're all getting stuck with speedier-science.  Uh, even genius brains need time to check things out - maybe even more so, because smart people think and reason alot.

[Hate this new format, ugh! Went to check something - and since what i wanted to add, was to be at the end of this SHORT - but i guess not short enough - post, but when i went to where i wanted to insert, the screen decided otherwise.]

Some years back, recall a paleontologist discussing this in a book he had written about man's journey from ape-hood.  He noted the difference between being a scientist in his homeland (Britain) and being a scientist in the USA.  He said that American scientists were under significantly more pressure to make a discovery, put out a peer-approved theory, publish a monograph - never mind these accomplishments take years of study, checking the sources, and checking them again.
